Olympic Air is the largest Greek airline in terms of destinations served. Formerly known as Olympic Airlines, the airline was privatised to form Olympic Air and commenced operations on 29 September 2009. The airline is headquartered in Athens, with its main hub situated at Athens International Airport.
The new Olympic Air took over various properties of the former airline, including its name, corporate logo, landing rights and technical base. Olympic Air, however, did not employ any of its original staff, who all remained at Olympic Airlines.
On 22 February 2010, Olympic Air and its main competitor Aegean Airlines announced their merger, phasing out the Aegean brand. A complete merger is scheduled for the end of 2010.
